CAD to Drawing

Create Clear 2D CAD Drawings From the References You Already Have

Turn your existing 3D CAD models into clear 2D CAD drawings with defined views, dimensions, sections, and basic drawing information.

SYNCCAD helps prepare simple 2D drawings from existing CAD models for parts, brackets, mounting components, enclosures, covers, and other clearly defined designs.

You don't need to create the drawing from scratch. Provide the 3D CAD model and the drawing requirements you already have, and we'll review the scope before production.

What You Can Send Us

You can start with the references you already have.

Existing 3D CAD

Provide the existing 3D CAD model that the drawing should be based on.

Existing Drawing

An existing 2D drawing can be used when you need a clearly defined update or revision.

Drawing Requirements

Provide the views, dimensions, sections, notes, and other drawing information you want included.

PDF

A PDF drawing can be used as a reference for eligible drawing preparation or revision work.

Marked-Up Drawing

A marked-up drawing can clearly identify the required changes or additions.

What Information Should You Include?

  • Existing 3D CAD file
  • Required drawing views

  • Dimensions to show

  • Section views where required

  • Detail views where required

  • Units

  • Drawing size where relevant

  • Title or part identification

  • Revision information

  • Required output format

  • Any important drawing requirements

Example:

Create a 2D drawing from the attached 3D CAD model.

Views: front, top, right side, and isometric.

Show overall dimensions and all hole locations.

Units: mm.

Include part name and revision A.

Required output: PDF and DWG.

This gives us a much clearer basis for reviewing the request.

CAD to Drawing for Different Workflows

Manufacturing Reference

A 2D drawing can provide dimensions and geometry references for simple manufacturing workflows.

Useful information may include:

  • Overall dimensions

  • Feature dimensions

  • Hole locations

  • Profiles

  • Sections

  • Material information

  • Tolerances where relevant

  • Manufacturing method

Final manufacturing requirements should be confirmed with the chosen manufacturer.

From Reference to 3D CAD

01 — Submit Your References

Upload your drawing, sketch, PDF, image, or existing CAD file.

02 — We Review the Scope

We check the source model, required views, dimensions, units, drawing requirements, references, and requested changes.

03 — Confirm Scope & Price

Eligible Simple CAD Jobs are $48.

If the request is outside the simple-job scope, additional review or a custom quote may be required.

04 — Pay & Complete Your References

Payment is required before production.

The 48-hour period starts after payment is received and all required references and information are complete.

05 — We Prepare Your CAD

We create or modify the agreed 2D CAD drawing based on the confirmed scope.

06 — Delivery

The agreed CAD output is delivered within the confirmed timeframe.

For eligible Simple CAD Jobs, delivery is targeted within 48 hours after payment and all required references and information are complete.

What Makes a Good CAD to Drawing Request?

A good request clearly answers five questions:

What?

What drawing needs to be created or modified?

From What?

Which 3D CAD model, existing drawing, PDF, or reference should be used?

How Large?

Which views, dimensions, sections, and details are required?

What Changes?

If modifying an existing drawing, exactly what needs to change?

What Output?

Which drawing format do you need?

The clearer these points are, the easier it is to review the scope and prepare the drawing.

Common Problems to Avoid

01.

Missing Source CAD

A drawing created from a 3D model depends on having a suitable source model or sufficient reference information.

03.

Unclear Dimensions

Specify which dimensions should be shown when only selected dimensions are required.

02.

Missing Required Views

Identify which views are needed instead of assuming that every possible view should be included.

04.

Unknown Units

Clearly identify whether dimensions are in mm, inches, or another unit.

05.

Incomplete Source Model

If the 3D model does not contain the required geometry, additional references may be needed.

06.

Unclear Revisions

Instead of:

Please update the drawing.

Use:

Change the four hole callouts from Ø6 mm to Ø8 mm. Keep the hole locations unchanged and update the revision to B.

Supported Reference Types

Depending on the task, your reference may include:

  • Existing 3D CAD ➞ Source model for drawing creation

  • Existing Drawing ➞ Modification or revision
  • Technical Drawing ➞ Geometry and dimension reference
  • PDF ➞ Drawing and reference information
  • Marked-Up Drawing ➞ Clearly identified revisions
  • Sketch ➞ Additional design or geometry reference

The actual suitability of each reference is determined during scope review.
