Mechanical Part CAD
Mechanical parts are individual components designed to perform a specific mechanical function. A CAD model or drawing can define their shape, dimensions, holes, mounting features, and other geometry needed for a particular application.
SYNCCAD helps prepare eligible simple mechanical part CAD files from drawings, sketches, images, dimensions, or existing CAD references. The first step is to review the available information and confirm whether the part fits the defined scope.
Mechanical Part CAD refers to the creation or modification of CAD geometry for individual mechanical components.
Depending on the reference material, a mechanical part may be prepared as a:
- 2D CAD drawing
- Simple 3D CAD model
- Modified existing CAD file
- Manufacturing reference geometry
- CAD file prepared for a specified workflow
Typical examples include plates, blocks, brackets, spacers, covers, simple housings, and other relatively straightforward components.
The required CAD format depends on how the file will be used and what output has been agreed for the request.
Simple Mechanical Components
Examples include:
- Spacers
- Blocks
- Plates
- Pins
- Simple shafts
- Covers
- Washers or rings
- Basic mounting components
Brackets and Mounting Components
Mechanical parts may include:
- L-brackets
- Flat brackets
- Mounting plates
- Support plates
- Simple connector brackets
- Components with mounting holes
Simple Enclosures and Covers
Some mechanical parts are used as:
- Protective covers
- Small housings
- Mounting boxes
- Equipment panels
- Simple component enclosures
For more specialized enclosure work, see the Product Enclosures resource.
A mechanical part CAD request is easier to review when the reference information clearly defines the required geometry.
Useful information may include:
- Existing CAD files
- Technical drawings
- Dimensioned sketches
- Clear reference images
- Overall dimensions
- Hole locations and sizes
- Thicknesses
- Angles
- Radii or chamfers
- Units of measurement
- Required output format
- Manufacturing method, when relevant
If the part contains important features that are not visible in the main reference, additional views or dimensions may be necessary.
A part is generally easier to scope when:
- The geometry is clearly defined
- Important dimensions are available
- Units are known
- Required features are visible
- The intended output is clear
- There are no major unresolved design decisions
A request may require additional review if the reference contains missing dimensions, conflicting information, complex geometry, or unclear design intent.
Not every mechanical part will qualify for the standard $48 Simple CAD Job.
Missing Dimensions
An image or sketch may show the general shape without providing enough dimensions to accurately define the part.
Unclear Geometry
Features such as holes, pockets, steps, fillets, or internal geometry may not be fully visible from a single view.
Conflicting References
Different drawings, images, or CAD files may contain inconsistent dimensions or geometry.
Unknown Units or Scale
A drawing without clear units can create uncertainty about the intended size of the component.
Unclear Design Intent
A reference may show what the part looks like without clearly explaining how certain features are intended to function.
These issues should be resolved before the CAD scope is confirmed.
1. Submit Your References
Provide the available drawings, sketches, images, dimensions, or existing CAD files.
2. Review the Information
SYNCCAD reviews whether the references provide enough information to define the requested CAD work.
3. Confirm Scope and Price
If the request qualifies as an eligible Simple CAD Job, the scope and $48 price are confirmed before payment.
More complex or unclear requests may require a separate review and custom quote.
4. Prepare the CAD File
After payment is received and all required references are complete, CAD preparation begins.
5. Deliver the Agreed Output
The completed CAD file is delivered in the agreed format and scope.
For eligible Simple CAD Jobs, the target delivery time is 48 hours after payment and receipt of all required information.
The appropriate output depends on how the mechanical part will be used.
STEP can be useful for exchanging 3D solid geometry.
STL is commonly used for mesh-based workflows such as 3D printing.
DXF and DWG are commonly used for 2D CAD drawings and profiles.
The required output format should be specified when submitting the request. If you are unsure, provide the intended use and SYNCCAD can review the appropriate output as part of the scope.
SYNCCAD provides CAD file preparation, not engineering consultancy or engineering validation.
A delivered CAD file does not guarantee:
- Structural performance
- Strength or safety
- Dimensional suitability for a particular application
- Manufacturing compatibility
- Final tolerances
- Material suitability
- Tooling or fabrication parameters
- Fit or assembly performance
The customer and selected manufacturer remain responsible for final engineering, manufacturability, fabrication requirements, and acceptance of the part.
Frequently asked questions
Here are some common questions about our company.
Yes, eligible simple mechanical parts can be prepared from sufficiently detailed drawings or other references.
Can a DWG file be converted to DXF?
This may be possible depending on the source file, required output, and supported workflow. Some drawing information or application-specific features may not transfer exactly.
Yes. A dimensioned sketch can be used as a reference when it contains enough information to define the requested geometry.
Yes, simple modifications can be reviewed when the original CAD file and clear revision instructions are provided.
No. The $48 price applies only to eligible, clearly defined Simple CAD Jobs. More complex requests may require a separate review and custom quote.
