Simple Turning Parts
Simple turning parts are generally rotational components based on a circular or cylindrical form. Their geometry can include different diameters, lengths, shoulders, grooves, holes, chamfers, and other straightforward features.
SYNCCAD helps prepare eligible simple CAD files for turning parts from technical drawings, sketches, images, dimensions, or existing CAD references.
The request is reviewed first to determine whether the available information is sufficient and whether the part fits the defined Simple CAD Job scope.
A simple turning part is a component whose primary geometry can be represented around a rotational axis.
Typical features may include:
- Cylindrical sections
- Multiple diameters
- Shoulders
- Steps
- Grooves
- Chamfers
- Simple tapers
- Center holes
- Through holes
- Threads or thread references
- Defined overall lengths
A clear 2D section drawing can often provide the key information needed to define a rotational part.
Spacers
Simple cylindrical spacers may require:
- Outer diameter
- Inner diameter
- Overall length
- Material or thickness information when relevant
Pins
A basic pin may include:
- Diameter
- Overall length
- Chamfer
- Groove or other defined feature
Bushings
Bushings can include an outer diameter, inner diameter, and overall length, with additional features when clearly specified.
Simple Shafts
A shaft may contain multiple diameter sections, shoulders, grooves, or holes.
Cylindrical Components
Other simple rotational components can include rollers, sleeves, collars, and similar parts with clearly defined geometry.
A turning-part CAD request should provide enough information to define the rotational geometry.
Useful references include:
- Dimensioned technical drawings
- Section views
- Dimensioned sketches
- Clear reference images
- Existing CAD files
- Overall length
- Individual diameters
- Hole dimensions
- Shoulder locations
- Groove dimensions
- Chamfer or radius information
- Thread information, when relevant
- Units of measurement
- Required output format
For rotational parts, a clear section view can be especially useful because it shows the geometry along the rotational axis.
A section view can make the geometry of a turning part easier to understand.
It may show:
- Diameter changes
- Internal holes
- Shoulders
- Grooves
- Tapers
- Overall lengths
If the part contains internal geometry, provide sufficient information to define the internal features rather than relying only on an external photograph.
A simple turning part is easier to scope when:
- The rotational axis is clear
- Diameters are dimensioned
- Overall lengths are known
- Internal features are defined
- Grooves and shoulders are specified
- Units are clear
- The required output format is known
Parts with highly complex geometry, extensive threading requirements, unclear dimensions, or unresolved design intent may require additional review.
Not every turning-part request qualifies for the standard $48 Simple CAD Job.
Missing Diameter Dimensions
A drawing may show the shape of the shaft or cylinder without defining every diameter.
Unclear Lengths
Each step or feature needs a clear axial position or length where relevant.
Hidden Internal Features
A photograph may not show internal holes or bores. A section view or additional dimensions may be required.
Undefined Threads
A thread may be visible in an image but lack the required size or specification.
Incomplete Section Views
Without a suitable section view, internal geometry can be difficult to define accurately.
1. Submit Your References
Provide your technical drawing, sketch, image, dimensions, or existing CAD file.
2. Review the Available Information
SYNCCAD reviews whether the supplied references are sufficient to define the requested turning-part geometry.
3. Confirm Scope and Price
If the request qualifies as an eligible Simple CAD Job, the scope and $48 price are confirmed before payment.
More complex requests may require a separate review and custom quote.
4. Prepare the CAD File
CAD preparation starts after payment is received and all required references are complete.
5. Deliver the Agreed Output
The completed CAD file is delivered according to the confirmed scope and output format.
For eligible Simple CAD Jobs, the target delivery time is 48 hours after payment and receipt of all required information.
The required output depends on the intended workflow.
STEP may be suitable when a 3D solid model is required.
STL may be suitable for mesh-based workflows such as 3D printing.
DXF or DWG may be useful for 2D drawings or profiles.
If the file is intended for CNC turning, provide the intended workflow and required format when submitting the request
SYNCCAD prepares CAD files based on the supplied references and confirmed scope. It does not provide machining process planning, tooling selection, CNC programming, engineering validation, or manufacturing certification.
A delivered CAD file does not guarantee:
- Machinability
- Final tolerances
- Thread suitability
- Tool access
- Material suitability
- Dimensional accuracy for a particular application
- Strength or safety
- Final manufacturing results
The customer and selected manufacturer remain responsible for final engineering, machining requirements, process parameters, and acceptance of the manufactured part.
Frequently asked questions
Here are some common questions about our company.
Yes, when the drawing provides sufficient dimensions and geometry information.
Can a DWG file be converted to DXF?
This may be possible depending on the source file, required output, and supported workflow. Some drawing information or application-specific features may not transfer exactly.
Yes. A section view can clearly show diameter changes and internal features.
Yes. A photo can be used as a reference, but dimensions and additional views may be required.
Eligible simple turning parts can be prepared as 3D CAD models when the required geometry is clearly defined.
No. SYNCCAD's scope is CAD file preparation, not CNC programming or machining process planning.
No. The $48 price applies only to eligible, clearly defined Simple CAD Jobs.
The target delivery time is 48 hours after payment is received and all required references and information are complete.
No. Final machinability, tolerances, process parameters, and manufacturing results remain the responsibility of the customer and selected manufacturer.
